The Negros Occidental Sanggunian is holding a public hearing on a proposed ordinance seeking to raise the tax on real properties in the towns of Negros Occidental by 7 percent, that is set at the provincial Capitol in Bacolod City on November 26, Provincial Assessor Enrique Gary Pinongan said yesterday.
The proposed 7 percent increase is very minimal and will cover only urban lands that are classified as residential, commercial and industrial, not agricultural lands, he added.
The proposed ordinance is geared towards updating the schedule of current and fair market value of real properties for the municipalities of Negros Occidental and other provisions relative to real property tax administration.

Japanese dignitaries headed by Yoshiko Nakano, OISCA International president, came to Negros Occidental to witness the 9th Negros Island Organic Farmers Festival at the Provincial Capitol Grounds, yesterday.
President Nakano was accompanied by OISCA International secretary, Narumi Nakano and Tadashi Watanabe, in charge of overseas operation of the organization, a Capitol press release said.
The group expressed their gratitude to Gov. Alfredo Marañon, Jr. for his support to the Japanese community, and, according to them “Philippines means Negros Occidental”. 


‘Reform attracts investors’
MANILA -- Foreign companies continue to show interest in investing or expanding in the Philippines as a result of reforms being initiated by the Philippine government, President Benigno Aquino III said yesterday.
In his message upon his arrival from a two-day visit to Singapore, President Aquino said many business groups he met in Singapore were excited about the transformations in the Philippines that encourage them to invest in the country.
The groups he met include the Singapore Business Federation and the respective chambers of commerce of Europe, Great Britain, the United States, Japan, and India, as well as the Europe-ASEAN Business Alliance, International Enterprise Singapore, and Philippines-Singapore Business Council.
