The Negros Occidental Sanggunian is holding a public hearing on a proposed ordinance seeking to raise the tax on real properties in the towns of Negros Occidental by 7 percent, that is set at the provincial Capitol in Bacolod City on November 26, Provincial Assessor Enrique Gary Pinongan said yesterday.
The proposed 7 percent increase is very minimal and will cover only urban lands that are classified as residential, commercial and industrial, not agricultural lands, he added.
The proposed ordinance is geared towards updating the schedule of current and fair market value of real properties for the municipalities of Negros Occidental and other provisions relative to real property tax administration.
Pinongan said the ordinance has been passed on first reading and public hearings have been held on it in the towns of Negros Occidental.
The municipalities have also issued their endorsements of the ordinance, he said.
The ordinance is expected to be passed in December for implementation in January 2015, Pinongan said.
Local government are by law required to raise real property tax every year, he added.*CPG
