Woman doctor faces
mauling complaint

BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

A woman sought the assistance of the Commission on Human Rights in Negros Oriental for an alleged mauling incident involving a doctor assigned at the Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital in Dumaguete City.

CHR-Negros Oriental special investigator, Jess Cañete, declined to name the complainant and the doctor until he has started a formal investigation on the incident.

But he said the woman and some companions appeared at his office yesterday to file a complaint against the government doctor, a female, who, Cañete said, has been the subject of past media reports for similar complaints of alleged maltreatment of patients.

Cañete recommended that the complainant undergo medical examination before he begins his investigation today into the alleged mauling incident at the NOPH.

The victim alleged that the doctor had slapped and punched her when she sought medical consultation at the NOPH.

Cañete refused to further discuss the case until after the preliminary meeting with the victim today, but said he is happy that this time, someone has come forward to file a formal complaint against the doctor in question.

He said he has received reports of various complaints against the same doctor but nobody had dared file a complaint against her with the authorities.*JFP
