American Jesse Vargas defends his World Boxing Association junior welterweight title on the Manny Pacquiao-Chris Algieri undercard in Macau on Sunday undaunted by an opponent who has a huge motivation.

Mexico's Antonio DeMarco (31-3-1, 23 KOs) received the devastating news that his 13-year-old sister had been struck down with cancer on his arrival at training camp in the Philippines last month.

"I fight for the life of my sister -- it’s for her that I’m going in the ring," DeMarco told reporters yesterday.

Abrakadabra grabs lead in
Pre-Christmas bowlfest

Abrakadabra-SP grab the lead in the Pre-Christmas Bonanza Mix Trio Bowling Extravaganza organized by ASSFBI/NSL at the Super Lanes of the Goldenfield Commercial Complex in Bacolod City.

After four rounds, the Abrakadabra bowlers led by Rey Balaan are now on top of the 16 teams with 2,987 points, followed by Cecil Ramon Silverio’s ASSFBI Silverado with 2,902.

Manila Bulletin/Monday Club of Albert Solidarios is third with 2,877 while erstwhile No.1 Kami Mga Hubin/Boysen, coached by Wilson Casas, tallied with 2,866.

USLS, SU athletes
clash in dual meet

University of St. La Salle and Silliman University athletes will clash in 14 events in the 1st Annual SU-USLS Dual Meet that will kick off today at the USLS campus, a press release from La Salle said.

The USLS Stingers and SU Stallions will battle for superiority in men’s basketball, men and women’s badminton, men and women’s lawn tennis, men’s football, men and women’s swimming, men and women’s table tenni, men and women’s volleyball, and men and women’s chess.

The 2nd Annual SU-USLS Dual Meet is slated on August 22-24, 2015, the press release said.*
