Organic festival
surpasses P3M target
BY CARLA GOMEZ

The 9th Negros Island Organic Farmers Festival overshot its target by posting P3,180,856.10 in sales as of noon yesterday, with more revenues still expected later in the day.

The sales at the five-day festival at the North Capitol Road in Bacolod City that ended yesterday was the highest ever from the annual activity, with this year’s target set at P3 million, Ramon Uy Jr., president of the Organic Na Negros! Organic Producers and Retailers Association, said.

Next year, they will help the organic farmers with logistics so that more can join the festival and bring in more products, he said.

This year, a little more than 50 percent of the province’s organic farmers joined the festival, and they were very happy with their sales, he said.

Best sellers at the festival were the fresh vegetables and the cooked food, Armi Benedicto, provincial focal person on organic agriculture and festival steering committee chairperson, said.

With the theme “One Negros, One Green Economy”, the festival had 216 exhibitors from 154 last year.

Festival sales were P581,179 on the first day Wednesday, P706,915 – second day, P782,366 – third day, P775,125 – fourth, and  P335,271.10 – fifth day.

On complaints by some sectors on the closure of the North Capitol Road, Uy said the festival was a chance for farmers to sell their products at good prices, he is sorry if the road closure was a bother to some.*CPG
