PROV’L VET SAYS
Negros meat, poultry
enough for holidays

The supplies of meat and poultry products in Negros Occidental are enough for the holiday season that will start next week, Provincial Veterinarian Renante Decena said yesterday.

Decena said the public should not worry since the producers have already assured them of enough supply. Negros Occidental is not dependent on commercial farming, since backyard animal raising has already been practiced here, he said.

The prices of dressed chicken and beef may increase a little, while pork’s price maybe raised by P2 to P5 per kilo, Decena said, adding that, so far, prices of poultry and meat products are the same from their monitoring last week.

Decena attributed the possible price increase to the delay in the distribution of supplies to several towns, such as Pulupandan and Toboso, and Kabankalan City, where there are huge demands.

Negros Occidental has 10 new poultry raisers, who produce more than 200,000 dressed chicken, which added to the 2.5 million capacity volume being produced by the province, in a month, Decena said.

Since October this year, about 3 million dressed chicken have been delivered to markets, and they have not encountered problems in the production, Decena said.

Meanwhile, about 300,000 eggs were added to the supply in Negros Occidental. There were several layer production applicants from Cebu and Bantayan that transferred to Negros Occidental since the province is not typhoon-prone, so the housing of animals is safe here, Decena also said.*SGG
