Fashion Week at SMX
The Fashion Week was launched Tuesday at the formal opening of the SMX Convention Center-Bacolod, with a show featuring the creations of premier Filipino fashion designer, Renee Salud, and other Bacolod talents, that will run until Sunday.
Another fashion show featuring Manila models will be held 4 p.m. today, also at SMX-Bacolod.
The USLS orchestra performance opened the fashion show Tuesday with the song, “Dandansoy”, and with “The Ruins” as backdrop. The show, titled “Gugma”, also featured the creations of Bacolod fashion designers John-John Ditching, John Rondain and Steve Gensola.
Salud’s gowns were modeled by Bb. Pilipinas Universe Jennifer Barrientos, Mutya ng Pilipinas first runner-up Emma Tiglao, and Bb. Pilipinas International Bea Rose Santiago.
The SMX Convention Center Bacolod is at the third level of the New North Wing of SM City Bacolod, boasting 8,218 square meters of event space, with a pre-function lobby, six meeting rooms, and three function rooms that can accommodate up to 4,500 people.*CGS

SIFI holds outreach
The 154th medical dental mission of the Sugar Industry Foundation Inc. and Universal Robina Sugar Milling Corp. was held at the Brgy. Tamisu Health Center in Bais City, Negros Oriental, recently, its press release said.
It also said that 345 sugar workers from nearby haciendas, small planters and their families benefited from the activity, with free medical consultations and medicines. Around 305 residents availed of free medical consultations and medicines, and 40 had dental extractions.
Prevalent illnesses discovered were hypertension, upper respiratory tract infection, abdominal pain, severe cough and colds, fever and first degree malnutrition among children, and hyperacidity, LBM, gastritis, arthritis and anemia for adults, the press release said.
The outreach was participated in by Mario Palma, Asela Grace Arañes, Mary Rose Tobias and Mary Grace Gracia of URSUMCO; Tamisu Barangay Captain Anabel Jiminez with her kagawads, barangay health workers and nutrition scholars and midwife Bermuda Culanculan.
Doctors Corazon Cablao, Inofredita Sibul, Panalip Deme Andaya, Josephine Fernandez and Wilton Engtai, and dentist Sheilah Absin also joined the outreach that is part of the thrust of SIFI to provide medical services and health education to sugar workers and their families, the press release.
Also in attendance were SIFI-URSUMCO scholars April Amiler and Kariza Olpuz, Federico Espin, Jan dela Cruz and Mayette Gersaniva of Child Fund, and Rep. George Arnaiz (Neg. Or., 2nd District), who showed up during the mission, the press release added.*
