Bago casual meted
life for selling drugs

BY CARLA GOMEZ

A Bago City casual employee was sentenced to life imprisonment yesterday  for the sale of six sticks of marijuana to a police confidential agent.

Bago Regional Trial Court Branch 62 Judge  Frances Guanzon  convicted  Jeric Abella Dojoles, alias Polo,  to life imprisonment and ordered him to pay a P500,000 fine for violation  of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

She also ordered his immediate transfer to the National Penitentiary in Muntinlupa  for the service of his sentence.

The court was told that Dojoles  sold six marijuana cigarets  weighing  .71 gram  to a police confidential agent at Araneta Street, Barangay Poblacion in Bago City, on Nov. 25, 2010.

Chief Inspector Rico Santotome Jr., who was Bago  City deputy chief in 2010,  said he had  received  a text message that there was rampant selling of marijuana at the Bliss  site in Bago City perpetrated by Dojoles .

The Bago police conducted surveillance  operations, a test buy using a poseur buyer, and a buy-bust operation that led to the arrest of Dojoles, Santotome said.

Dojoles, a Bago City street cleaner, put up a defense of denial and insinuated  the planting of evidence against him which he failed to prove, the judge noted.

The judge ordered that the six sticks of marijuana seized in the  buy-bust operation  and one marijuana stick  be submitted to the Philippine Drug Enforcement  Agency for proper disposition.*CPG
