Lady Stags post 6th straight win

Gretchel Soltones came through with another strong performance as she lifted San Sebastian to a 25-12, 25-18, 17-25, 25-14, victory over Emilion Aguinaldo in the 90th NCAA volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City yesterday.

Soltones unleashed a match high 28 hits including 27 on attacks to power the Lady Stags to their sixth straight win and into the solo lead.

"She's our source of strength," said San Sebastian coach Roger Gorayeb.

Jose Rizal dumped San Beda, 25-16, 25-16, 25-18, to improve to a 3-3 (win-loss) record.

Meanwhile, football action unfolds today at the Rizal Memorial pitch with reigning three-peat champion San Beda battling Perpetual Help at 8 a.m.

The Lions won their third straight championship and should be the heavy favorite to win it again this year.

San Beda is also gunning for its 21st championship that will send it atop with former member La Salle as the most titled teams in football competition.

Also on tap are the matches pitting Arellano University against Mapua at 10 a.m. and Lyceum versus Emilio Aguinaldo College at 12 nn.*PNA
