The Character First Program of Bayawan City in Negros Oriental organized the Bayaw Anihan Pilgrimage September 30 to October 4 this year, with the arrival of sustainable transport hero Felcon Rivera in Guihulngan City.
Rivera, an artist from Bayawan City, traveled for seven months on long board from Bayawan City on March 17 to Baguio City on June 17 this year. He swam and hitched rides with fisherfolk, a press release said yesterday.
“Bayaw anihan”, also called an advocacy ride for a sustainable Negros Oriental, aims to appeal to local government units, schools, churches and organizations in the Negros Oriental for adherence to Integral Sustainable Development.
“Bayaw anihan” also aims to initiate a partnership with various groups all over the province for a convergence to pursue ISD meaningfully and productively and aims to explore strategic habits for a sustainable society.
The pilgrimage schedule is: September 30 – arrival at Guihulngan City, October 1, depart Guihulngan and sleep over in Bindoy, October 2 - depart Bindoy and stay overnight in Tanjay City, October 3, leaves Tanjay City and sleep over Dumaguete.
In Dumaguete, the stops include the St. Joseph Seminary College at 11.30 a.m. and the Negros Oriental State University, St. Paul University, Foundation University and Silliman University.
A night ride will include a focus group discussion on the various integral sustainable development initiatives in Negros Oriental.
On October 4 at 3 p.m., the pilgrimage will leave for Bayawan City, where a program is scheduled that will be attended by leaders and stakeholders.
In Bayawan, activities include the launching of bike parks, marking of the Tambayaw-Anihan Community Center, and launching of the “Raise to the Millions” program.*JFP/PR
