No. 1 national junior girl player Emy Rose Dael won two championships to lead the players from the Bacolod City-based Lopue’s Table Tennis Association in dominating the 23rd Jawad’s Cup National Table Tennis Open held in Cebu, recently, a press release from LOPTTA president Leonito Lopue said.
LOPTTA players should be commended for beating fellow their rivals, including those from other clubs in Bacolod City, as they demonstrated their outstanding skills during the tournament, Lopez said in the press release.
LOPTTA captured six gold medals, three silvers, and three bronzes, with Dael leading the surge in both women’s singles open and girls 18 years old and under categories.
Dael outplayed fellow LOPTTA player Ann Gella Borbon, 3-1, in the final of the 18 and under category then went on to demolish Jerny Kaye Pepito of University of Cebu 3-0 in the women’s open singles for her twin gold medals, the press release said.
LOPTTA also exceptionally stood out in boys’ 13 and under category, with
Elijah Bomban snatching the gold against University of San Carlos Dominic Luceroin the final. His teammate, Arrienel Ariola, settled for the bronze.
It was an all-LOPTTA affair in the girls’ 13 and under category as Edria Garganian defeated teammate Alyssa Toleco in the championship game, 3-1, while another teammate Micah Tanate took the bronze, the press release said.
LOPTTA's mainstay Mark Francis Jimenez finished second runner-up in the tightly contested men's open singles event with defending champion Val Stephen Jaca and Dannel Jay Tormis of University of Cebu winning the gold and silver, respectively, the press release said.
LOPTTA's Elijah Bomban, Arrienel Ariola and John Carl Yanson took the championship in the boys 13 & under team event after winning against the City Central - A from Cebu composed of Eljey Don Tormis, Francis Aurencio and Kris John Cabaluna 2-1.
In the women’s category, LOPTTA's Edria Garganian, Alyssa Toleco and Micah Tanate also won the championship in the girls 13 & under team event by prevailing against City Central team of Mikyla Dirawanao, Kathlyn Alendajao and Lea Agbon 2-0.
In the men's team event, LOPTTA's Richard Gonzales, Celjun Ortalla and Mark Francis Jimenez settled for the first runner-up honors after winning against Hua Ching team in the semifinal, 2-1, but loss to team TATAND-Manila composed of Zoren Mendiola, Japhet Adaza and Homber Tiongson in the championship match 2-1.
Defending champion University of Cebu team of Dannel Jay Tormis, Val Stephen Jaca and Francis Bendebel settled for the bronze after losing to team TATAND 2-0 in the semis but won in the battle for third place against Hua Ching team of Glendo Nayre, Glen Rodriguez, Jonathan Lagrosas and Bill Yap, 2-1.
“Bacolod should be proud that our kids performed very well winning all 6 events that they joined. I hope that these victories will encourage other youths to continue to practice and excel in this sport,” Lopue also said in the press release.
Meanwhile, LOPPTA will have an Age-Group MassKara Table Tennis Tournament on October 17 – 19, the press release added.*
