Fifteen rolling stores were given by the Dumaguete City government to the Ambulant Vendors Association of Barangay Piapi, headed by Jocelyn Teves, recently.
The City has continuously been organizing ambulant vendors in the city.
A soft loan of P150,000 was granted to rolling store vendors of Piapi who sell food items in front of the North City Elementary School, and those outside the gates of the Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital.
Dumaguete City Mayor Sagarbarria said he believes the ambulant vendors association will address peddling in non-designated areas, and give them identity and dignity.
The Piapi rolling stores will become the model for barangays where public elementary or high schools are located, and ambulant vending is being held in the perimeters, he added.
One good thing about the rolling store is that they can be removed everyday from their designated areas so cleanliness can be maintained, he said.
Teves said this is not a dole-out, as a rolling stores cost P10,000 each to be paid within two years at less than one percent interest.
At the turnover were City Administrator William Ablong, Barangay Captain Tomasa Amor and kagawads Humphrey Natus Balbon and Dioscoro Pinero.*JG
