Brgy Zone 12A bets win
Brainsbee city finals
For the first time in the four runs of Brainsbee ni Albee sa District 3, a barangay made a clean sweep by finishing on top for both the elementary and high school contest categories, a press release from organizers said.
Representatives of Talisay Barangay Zone 12A in the recent Brainsbee District 3 city finals topped the hotly-contested five-hour competition held at the gym of the Carlos Hilado Memorial State College Talisay campus. Barangay Captain Eduardo Oñas led officials, parents, teachers, classmates and neighbors who cheered for their bets. All of Talisay’s 27 barangays were represented, the press release said.
First place in spelling quiz for the elementary level is Patrice Anne Patria, 11, of Barangay Zone 12A and Grade 6 pupil of the St. Theresita’s Academy, while Emerald Esona, a fourth year high school student of Negros Occ. National Science High School, also of the barangay, finished first place in the math and science quiz, the press release also said.
Patrice Anne and Emerald won P15,000 in cash prize each. Their coaches, Ariel Joy Patria Jr., Patrice Anne’s brother, and Bernard Belleza, Emerald’s teacher, received P5,000 each. Barangay officials of Zone 12A won two sets of mini public address system and the schools of both winners got a portable amplifier each.
Other winners were – spelling: Maverick Jhayster Bakingking of Zone 14 and Colegio San Nicolas de Tolentino-Recoletos, 2nd and Angeliegh Belecina, Bubog and Bubog Elementary School, 3rd. For math and science: Jeric Gonzaga, Dos Hermanas and Don Antonio Lizares Memorial National High School, 2nd and Lyanni May Ambal, Bubog and Doña Monserrat Lopez Memorial National High School, 3rd.
The Talisay winners complete the set of finalists from all third district cities and towns that will compete in the final championship round on October 12 at the Victorias City Coliseum, the press release said.
In 2009, then Betty Bantug Benitez Foundation president and now Congressman Alfredo Benitez launched the first district-wide community-based academic competition that sparked the interest and enthusiasm of the 115 barangays. Now on its fourth run, Brainsbee is supported by the Department of Education, provincial government, all the local government units of the third District and the barangays, the press release added.*
