Mayor says city
APEC venue, too
BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

Bacolod Mayor Monico Puentevella said yesterday that he was informed by Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation National Coordinating Committee director general Marciano Paynor Jr, that Bacolod City was chosen as one of the venues for one of the conferences of the APEC summit in 2015.

Puentevella said, in an interview over ABS CBN, that an inspection team from the
APEC-NOC was supposed to arrive in Bacolod City next week but all the hotels are fully booked for the MassKara Festival.

It would be better if the team would come after the MassKara festival so that they will be given attention by the city, he said.

Puentevella said that after the MassKara Festival, the team from the APEC-NOC
will be accompanied by the department heads and representatives from the private sector in the inspection.

If ever Bacolod is chosen as one of the conferences sites of APEC 2015,
Puentevella said he hopes to get the Gender Equity conference that will be attended by 800 women delegates.

The team was in Bacolod in February headed by APEC 2015
Deputy Director-General for Operations Revimarc De Mesa to tackle particular issues of the hosting.

The Department of Tourism 6 had earlier confirmed that Iloilo City
and Boracay Island will be among the major venues for the summit in 2015.

DOT 6 regional director Helen Catalbas said the department is also
coordinating to include Bacolod in the major venues.*CGS
