‘Man kills son, injures wife’

A 1-year-old boy was killed and his mother, who was carrying him, was injured when they were shot by his father near their residence in Barangay Bata, Bacolod City, at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The baby was hit in the chest, while the mother, 35, sustained an injury on her chin, Police Inspector Jinky Ramos, Bacolod Women and Children Protection Desk, said yesterday.
The victims were rushed to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital but the child was declared dead on arrival, Ramos said.
Cops probe Grade 1
pupil with shabu

Five sachets of suspected shabu fell from the book of a Grade 1 pupil, during a class in an elementary school in Bacolod City, Tuesday.
Police Inspector Jinky Lou Ramos, said yesterday that the teachers of the school reported to the police at about 12:45 p.m. Tuesday that they had recovered the transparent plastic sachets containing suspected shabu from a 6-year-old boy, believed to be used as a drug courier.
Investigation showed that the seatmate of the minor opened the latter’s book, and a big sachet containing five small ones, fell on the floor. The teacher got the items and the boy was brought to the police with the help of a barangay social worker and a kagawad, Ramos said.

The Negros Island Region Movement based in Negros Occidental is sending leaflets through the League of Municipalities Negros Oriental chapter with information to Oriental Negros as part of the campaign to educate Negrenses on the benefits of the proposed merger.
The materials were distributed to local government units, Dumaguete City Vice Mayor Woodrow Maquiling, said.
The material is in a question and answer format, in the local dialect.
