power charges to Ceneco

The Wholesale Electricity Spot Market reversed its Price Substitution Adjustment charge to Central Negros Electric Cooperative by P91 million, while officials of Green Core Geothermal Inc. offered to sell CENECO power at lower rates yesterday.
This was disclosed last night by CENECO president Arnel Lapore, who said this will greatly benefit the coop’s consumers.
However, the new power rates for consumers in October with the WESM reversal of its charges, and the effect of Green Core’s offer on future billings are still being computed, he said.
There are 21 sugarcane-based biomass projects registered with the Department of Energy with a total capacity of 297.47 megawatts, Ma. Regina Bautista Martin, Sugar Regulatory Administrator, said yesterday.
Martin, who is also National Biofuels Board vice chairperson on bioethanol concerns and Department of Agriculture representative to the National Renewable Energy Board, in a report on sugarcane based biomass projects said the potential power generation capacity of the entire milling sector if fully developed is 540 megawatts.
She said of the 21 sugar-based biomass projects registered with the DOE, 15 are in the Visayas with a potential capacity of 192.65 MW of which 98 MW are for commercialization or for sale to the grid, and the rest are for own-use.
Buglasan Fest to open Friday

The Buglasan festival of festivals in Negros Oriental will reel off Friday, on the theme “Community Development Through Tourism”.
An ecumenical service will start the celebration 5 p.m. Friday at the provincial Capitol forecourt stage, followed by the awarding ceremony of this year’s Outstanding Oriental Negrenses, and the opening of fair booths of local government units.
One highlight is the selection of Miss Negros Oriental Tourism where 13 candidates will vie for the crown at the Freedom Park stage in Dumaguete City.
