SM opens today

Top Negros Occidental and Bacolod officials are joining the inauguration of SM Bacolod’s P1.4 billion north wing expansion today, that will almost double the size of the mall, it’s manager George Jardiolin said yesterday.
There will be a mass at 8 a.m. and a blessing at 9 a.m. to also be attended by top SM executives. The expanded area will open to the public at 10 a.m., he said.
The expanded area will create more than 2,000 new jobs, May Castro, SM Bacolod public relations manager, said.
Power rate hike

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Negros Occidental yesterday passed a resolution expressing its vehement opposition to the increase in power rate by P1 to P2 imposed by the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market to electric cooperatives in Visayas, for the month of September.
CENECO president Arnel Lapore said the WESM on Tuesday lowered its increase following opposition aired by power cooperatives in the Visayas.
Yesterday he said that instead of a P2 increase per kilowatt hour, CENECO consumers will now only be paying 58 centavos.
A barangay chairman and his wife were killed in an ambush staged by suspected members of the New People’s Army Special Partisan Unit Monday in Sitio Tuba, Brgy. Tinayunan Hill, Guihulngan City in Negros Oriental.
The victims, identified as George Sadagnot, barangay chairman of Tinayunan Hill, and his wife, Glen, were on their way home on board a motorcycle, when they were ambushed by suspected NPA rebels.
Lt. Col. Paulito Idul, 11th Infantry Battalion commander, said Sadagnot succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds, while his wife, was declared dead on arrival at a hospital in Dumaguete City.
