BM Macias eyeing Congress
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

Sangguniang Panlalawigan Member Erwin Michael Macias announced his plan to run for congressman of the second district of Negros Oriental in 2016 recently.

Macias, whose decision allegedly surprised his supporters, brother Vice Gov. Edward Mark Macias, and the political party, said he has to decide now because 2019 may be too late for him. He vehemently denied insinuations that this was due to a “promise” made but not given and that there was no promise at all.

He also said he is supporting Gov. Roel Degamo in the 2016 elections, and that he has not resigned from the Nationalist People’s Coalition.

Out of respect to him as NPC head, he had asked for the permission of Rep. George Arnaiz (Neg. Or., 2nd District).

“Whether he will be with our group or not, that remains to be seen,” Edward Mark Macias said. “We understand each other’s predicaments, he cannot support me while in the camp of Degamo and so do I,” he added.*JG
