US ‘deportee’ shot dead

A man believed to have been deported from the United States of America was shot dead around yesterday afternoon in Dumaguete City in what is perceived to be another illegal drugs-related case.
The victim, identified as Carl Anthony Vincoy Cheng, 33, single, a resident of Batinguel, Dumaguete City, succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds and was declared dead on arrival at the Holy Child Hospital, Supt. James Goforth, city police chief, said.
Cheng was riding a motorcab-for-hire, or pedicab, from Batinguel en route to Lee Plaza Hypermart in Barangay Bagacay when two men, riding in tandem on a motorcycle, rode up to them and opened fire, investigators said.

Church to prioritize rehabilitation, Church leaders from the archdioceses and dioceses in the Visayas have placed a premium on rehabilitation and evangelization in their list of communal and individual priority pastoral programs in the coming years. The three-day 9th Visayas Region Pastoral Assembly held in Dumaguete City ended with the guide to future pastoral plans of actions of the four archdioceses and 14 dioceses in the Visayas region that was drafted and approved yesterday in a common pastoral statement. The Pastoral Statement on Rehabilitation and Our Task of Evangelization, focusing on the Biblical passage “Arise and eat, for the journey may yet be far” (1Kgs 19:7), was signed by Archbishop Jose Palma of the Archdiocese of Cebu and the assembly convenor. |
