commends Tan family
A resolution commending Ricardo “Cano” Tan and family for their outstanding contribution by pioneering the establishment of Campuestohan Highland Resort, a world-class tourist destination in the City of Talisay, Negros Occidental, was approved by the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Talisay City on Sept. 17.
The resolution was passed upon motion of Talisay Councilor Remus Gulmatico and seconded by Councilor Edmundo Daniel Tribaco.
The resolution said the City of Talisay visualizes a retirement destination, a place where essentials to life and leisure are characterized by an ecologically balanced environment, peaceful and orderly community, accessible health recreational and transport facilities, anchored on good governance, thus the vision to become the “Village City: Among the Five Leading Retirement Destinations in the Philippines by 2020.”
It said Capuestohan Highland Resort located in the uplands of the City of Talisay and considered by many as the “Crown Jewel Tourist Attraction in Negros, is the first of its kind in the province of Negros Occidental and showcases the magnificent panoramic view of the vast low lands of Negros facing Guimaras Strait, the cold climate comparable to that of Tagaytay City, and the wide range of recreational facilities for people of all ages to enjoy that can compete with any world-class tourist destination.
The resolution said Campuestohan Highland Resort reflects the vision of the City of Talisay to become a retirement destination by providing tourists, retirees, working groups and the like, activities to choose from outdoor physical activities such as nature trekking, swimming, zipline riding or just by relaxing on the scenery of the picturesque view of the lowlands.
The City of Talisay recognizes the active role of Campuestohan Highland Resort in promoting the city and its abundance of God-given natural resources to tourists, retirees, working groups and investors, thereby creating a strong case for the City of Talisay as the next preferred tourist destination in the Negros Occidental, it added.*CGS

PCW workshop, induction
of officers set Oct. 23-24
A strategic planning workshop and orientation for new members will be held by the Provincial Council for Women at Balay Kauwagan in Sagay City, Negros Occidental on October 23-24, a press release from the group said.
The project aims to enable the new PCW officers and LGU representatives to determine the direction of the Council and plan Gender and Development programs and projects for 2014 and 2015, the press release also said.
Team building, planning and orientation about violence against women, and workshop activities will also be held in preparation for the 18 Days Campaign to End Violence Against Women on November 25 to December 12, 2014.
The induction of the new officers will be held, with Andrea Si as chairperson, Alore Tambanillo, vice chair; Rosalinda Tuvilla, secretary; Dr. Cecilia Tolosa, treasurer; Eden Ligason, auditor; Cleovel Villanueva, P.I.O.; and Malou Parocco, business manager.
Members of the Board of Directors are Judy Jungco, Rudica Mangao, Letecia Estrano, Saira Jaruyan, Helen de la Cruz, and Melinda Aguilar, with Marie June Castro and Dionela Madrona as advisers, the press release said.
Meanwhile, the Department of Social Welfare and Development Regional Office 6 will hold a Summit for Women at Punta Villa Resort and Training Center in Iloilo City on November 27, a government press release said.
DSWD-6 Youth, Women, Family and Community focal person Eduardo Guevarra said women leaders of the Kalipunan ng Liping Pilipina in the Western Visayas will meet to come up with a comprehensive development plans for 2015.
He said the plans will be sent to the DSWD central office for inclusion in the priority activities, programs and projects to be implemented for women next year, the press release added.*

‘Adopt-a-Family’ launched
The Adopt-a-Family project was launched by iHOME Western Visayas and the Sagay City government at a ground-breaking ceremony in Barangay Old Sagay, in Sagay, Negros Occidental recently, a press release from the company said.
The project aims to help victims of super-typhoon Yolanda in Sagay City, and targets the construction of 24 houses on a lot provided by the city government, the press release said.
Houses 1 and 2 currently being built are donated by the Philippine Thai Cultural Organization, and the Asian Institute of Technology Alumni Association Inc., and donor representatives are expected to arrive for the turnover of the houses to the beneficiaries on November 5, the press release added.*

Sisters of Mary Girlstown/Boystown
scholarship exams slated in Bacolod
The Cebu City-based Sisters of Mary Girlstown/Boystown will be in Bacolod on October 24 to conduct an examination and interview for those applying for a scholarship in their school.
Mila Pomperada, coordinator of the scholarship, said the examination and interview will be conducted at the Pastoral Center in Barangay Sum-ag from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The scholarship is open to all 12 to 16 years old in-coming high school students with a general average of 83 percent in their report card during the first or second grading period. The examinees are also required to present a certification for the teacher adviser that he or she is a grade six pupil.
The applicant must be accompanied by the parents during the interview and they should present an NSO copy of the applicant’s birth certificate.
To qualify, the family of the applicant must have a monthly income of not more than P5,000 a month.
Pomperada said boys who qualify for the scholarship will be enrolled at the Sisters of Mary School, Boystown located in Mingdanilla, while the girls will be admitted to Girlstown School in Talisay, also in Cebu City.
Aside from the free high school education, the scholars will also have free board and lodging at Boystown and Girlstown.*NAB
