A shipment of the 123,000 bags of rice from Vietnam loaded on the MV Hanam arrived at the Bacolod Real Estate Development Corporation port in Bacolod City Tuesday.
The imported rice is the first batch and is part of the additional 500,000 bags allocated to the Negros Occidental to augment the supply in the market, National Food Authority Provincial Assistant Manager, Jobe Chua said.
Chua said they are also expecting an additional 100,000 bags next month while the balance will be shipped before December.
He said MV Hanam had stayed afloat in the harbor for days and was not able to dock right away because of the gridlock at port. A berthing permit was issued yesterday when the ship had formally docked. A 12-hour aeration is needed before the unloading that is set today if the good weather prevails, Chua said.*MNM
