Defending champion La Salle – Ceres
advance into the Unigames semifinals

Defending champion University of St. La Salle-Ceres football team beat National University, 1-0, in the quarterfinals to remain undefeated and advanced into the semifinals of the 19th Philippine University Games at Barotac Nuevo Football Field.

Freshman Charles Barbaran scored the winning goal to secure the semifinals seat where they will have a re-match against NU, 1 p.m. today at the Central Philippine University Football Field in Iloilo City. NU earned the right to challenge the undefeated St. La Salle team after they registered the best second finish in quarterfinals.

In the other semifinal match, San Beda College will face College of St. Benilde.

UNO-R tops girls basketball elims

University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos repeated over Mansilingan Christian Academy, 51-26, yesterday at the UNO-R covered court to sweep the four-team double round-robin NOPSSCEA girls basketball eliminations and earn the No. 1 spot going into the November 8 semifinals.

Two-time Palarong Panlalawigan veteran Rufa Deo led the winners with 10 points while 2014 US Department of State Basketball Visitors Program alumna Kaye Berduque and senior rookie Ferlyn Bahia each had 9. Batang Pinoy finals campaigner Trisha Dionisio led the losers with 10.

In the other game, St. Joseph’s School-La Salle drubbed hapless Bacolod Christian College of Negros 69-4 for its fourth win in the tournament.

Chinese schools cagefest
opens today at Tay Tung

The four-day 1st Chinese Schools Invitational Basketball Tournament opens today at Bacolod Tay Tung High School Po Hang Gym with the host team taking on Chiang Kai Shek College in the first game at 9 a.m. after the 8 a.m. opening ceremony.

In the second game at 10:30 a.m., Xavier School of Manila will face Hua Siiong College of Iloil, while Sun Yat Sen High School will play against Cebu Eastern College at 12 noon.

In the afternoon, Hua Siong and Chiang Kai Shek will slug it out at 5 p.m., and  host BTTHS will tackle Cebu Eastern College at 6:30 p.m.. The last game of the day will be between Xavier and Sun Yat Sen.
