Twinkling

OPINIONS

They might seek canonization

Ninfa Leonardia He is not only a bully, he is a good actor pa. We are talking about the “fiance” of Jeffrey/Jennifer Laude, who showed his lack of regard, much less respect for Philippine authority when he not only brushed aside, but actually shoved off a member of the Philippine military at Camp Aguinaldo. Unfortunately for him, the media, especially TV, played over and over the scene where he clambered over the fence of the military camp and roughly pushed aside the soldier guarding the place. Naturally Pinoys were not only turned off, they actually wanted him to be made liable for his act.

Well, the military did take action, and Marc Sueselbeck has been declared an undesirable alien, in other words, “persona non grata” in the Philippines. Best of all, he was stopped at the airport when he tried to leave the country, after supposedly apologizing (by reading a speech, probably prepared by lawyers). Well, the apology was not enough, he has to answer for his disrespectful act. But what do you know! He fainted right then and there, and must have enjoyed all the attention he was getting from the media. Artista pa!

Hot and cold. That seems to be the condition of Vice President Jejomar Binay these days. First he scores the administration and then he goes to see President Aquino apparently to remind him of auld lang syne. But when PNoy denied that he had promised anything involving his predicament, here he comes again, lambasting the administration. What will we hear again in the next few days? One thing sure is that we will not hear that he will come and face the senators who are girding to cross examine him.

Anyway, Binay should be happy to know that one of his bête noirs, Senator Alan Peter Cayetano is giving up his presidential ambitions, after noting that his popularity rating was dropping, despite the stellar role he is playing in the Binay case. Cayetano was the stand-in for tycoon Manuel V. Pangilinan, who seems to have a phobia for accepting the invitations of someone who gives the impression that they are the chummiest of pals. Cayetano has been going down in his ratings, but of course that had nothing to do with his charitable act of pitching in for Pangilinan.

Meanwhile partisans of the Laude family, probably wanting to squeeze out as much media mileage of the case, are criticizing President Aquino for not going to the wake of Jeffrey/Jennifer, and condoling with them. Apparently not one for politicking, the President was reported to have said that he did not know them personally. And they also want him to apologize for not coming! It seems as if they want the whole country to believe that their relative died a hero. Sus! They might ask Pope Francis to canonize him when he comes!

So what’s the latest on the Tellado affair? That is the case of the Camarines Sur governor whose wife fled in fear for her life after she discovered the photos of her husband on facebook in compromising situations with another woman. The poor wife said he confronted her and she saw he had a gun, and she was also afraid she would be framed by putting shabu in her things. Does this mean that he is also into illegal drugs? Oh dear! Poor woman. By the way, I know many people who were frantically searching on facebook and other media for the incriminating pictures. You’d he shocked to know who those eager voyeurs are.

But it was good to know that the military is acknowledging the behavior of the soldier who was literally pushed over by the German “fiance”. He really behaved in a professional manner, while firmly preventing the intruder from proceeding. Any other officer would have pummeled him, and called his companions to gang up on him as he deserved. Now I am wondering what happened after the fainting spell at the NAIA, and what the Laudes’ act will be this time.

What do you suppose the German Embassy will do, after being informed of the fainting spell of their undesirable national? Will he tell them he was beaten up or mauled by the airport police? Luckily the CCTVs must be working properly, so it was very clear that he was even being attended to immediately. The pictures were as clear as the ones showing him maltreating the Filipino soldier.*
