The Senate yesterday approved on third and final reading by a vote of 16-0 Senate Bill No. 2400, or the Sugarcane Industry Development Act of 2014, Rep. Alfredo Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3rd District) said yesterday.
A bicameral committee will now be created to reconcile the House and Senate versions of the Sugarcane Act that President Benigno Aquino III will then hopefully sign into law before the end of the year, he said.
Benitez is the author of the House version of the proposed Sugarcane Industry Development Act that was approved on third and final reading on August 4.
Raps set vs. gov’t workers

Charges are set to be filed against at least two government employees this week, for the ransacking of city treasurers’ offices of Bago and Escalante, Senior Supt, Milko Lirazan, provincial police director of Negros Occidental, said yesterday.
Investigations by the police showed that the ransacking incidents at the city halls of Bago and Escalante were “inside jobs”.
More than P2 million in cash and checks were taken from the Escalante City Treasurer’s Office, while the suspects failed to get cash from the vault of the Bago City Treasurer’s Office, although they managed to get about P500,000 worth of digital equipment and accessories from the Mayor’s Office, police records show.

NegOr police on heightened
alert for ‘Undas’ observance

Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office director, Senior Supt. Mariano Natu-el Jr., directed all chiefs of police in the province to prepare for the observance of All Souls and All Saints days.
NOPPO raised a heightened alert status during the holiday with the strict implementation of the Police Integrated Patrol System and three-tiered defense system, particularly on critical sites such as airports, seaports, bus terminals, cemeteries and churches, where people converge during the two-day observance.
Natu-el directed all CoPs to increase public awareness on crime prevention, provide the public with safety tips, and establish police assistance desks and centers in all cemeteries in Negros Oriental.
