The Bacolod City Karatedo Team snatched seven gold, five silver, and 10 bronze medals in the Batang Pinoy -Visayas Leg held last week in Kalibo, Aklan.
Ferlie Mae Lall of Jack & Jill School led the medal haul with a gold medal in -43 kgs. girls kumite, a silver in team synchronized kata, and a bronze medal in -45 kgs. advance kata.
Also winning the gold for the Bacolod team were Jasmine Veniegas, Jules Leonel Salvador, Charles Rodriguez, Rita Cuadra, and Chloe Limson, who displayed their skills during the tournament.
Veniegas, a student of St. Joseph School- La Salle, topped the -50 kgs., girls kumite, while Salvador of Megumi Academy, dominated the -63 kgs. boys kumite.
Rodriguez, from University of St. La Salle, won the gold in -40 kgs. boys advance kata as Cuadra of Destiny Christian Academy grabbed the gold in girls novice kata and Limson of Trinity Christian School finishing dominating the competition in (intermediate kata.
It was a 1-2 finish for the Bacolod karatekas in team synchronized kata as the group of Verxia Condada, E.J. Garcia, Rita Cuadra, and Joy Tobongbanua plucked the gold while Lall, Louise Andrea Sepico, and Jasmine Veniegas settled for the silver medal.
Bringing home a silver medal from the tournament were Zcesar Rein Benjamin Florete of SJS-LS in -58 kg. boys kumite, Andrew Jonathan Sepico of USLS-IS in +63 kgs. boys kumite, Febrei Mitz Defallo of West Negros University – STI in -40 kgs. girls kata, and Cherry Rodriguez of USLS-IS in +45 kgs. girls kata. Andrew Sepico also won the bronze medal in +53 kgs. boys kata.
Completing the medal harvest for the Bacolod team were bronze medalists Louise Andrea Sepico (USLS-IS) in -54 kgs. girls kumite, John Rey Togle (Maranatha-Alijis) in +63 kgs. boys kumite, Joy Tubongbanua (Montessori) in girls novice kata, Jomel Idahan Panes (BCNHS) in -44 kgs. boys advance kata, Fritz Alrich Sampang (SJS-LS) in -53 kgs. boys advance kata, Alliah Minn Sampang (JJS) in -35 kgs. girls kumite, and John Lander Corpuz (UNO-R) in -44 kgs. boys kumite.
Fritz Sampang, Panes and Corpuz, who also saw action in the boys’ team synchronized finished with the bronze medal.
