NOPPO deploying
897 cops for Undas

BY GILBERT BAYORAN

The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office is deploying 897 policemen and women to maintain peace and order and extend safety services for the All Saint’s and All Soul’s Day celebrations on Nov. 1 and 2.

The Bacolod City Police Office is also fielding 339 police personnel, Chief Supt. Josephus Angan, regional police director of Western Visayas, said in a statement issued by the Police Regional Office 6.

The statement quotes Angan as saying that police personnel will be deployed in cemeteries, bus terminals, seaports, airports, major tourist destinations, shopping malls and vital installations, to preempt criminal activities.

Yesterday Senior Supt. Milko Lirazan, provincial police director of Negros Occidental discouraged cemetery-goers from bringing bladed and deadly weapons, liquor and gambling paraphernalia.

The PNP is also establishing 131 police assistance centers in Negros Occidental.

Lirazan reiterated his call for vigilance and for Negrenses to secure their homes, before going to cemeteries.

In the whole of the Western Visayas, a total of 4,794 police officers will be utilized for visibility operations, Angan said.

About 3,000 members of the Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team will form the force multipliers, he added in the statement.

Thousands of people are expected to flock to cemeteries, churches, transport terminals and other public places on Nov. 1 and 2.* GPB
