Anti-drug summit October
BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

The Dumaguete City government will launch a two-day anti-drug summit in October, through the Dumaguete City Anti-Drug Abuse Council, in cooperation with the Rotary Club South.

Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria has directed Leo Macalipay, DCADAC executive director, to supervise the summit, scheduled October 8 and 9, that aims to address the illegal drugs problem in the city.

A forum with stakeholders will be held, with speakers from the Dangerous Drugs Board in Manila, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Region 7, the Philippine National Police Region 7 Office, and medical practitioners.

A motorcade, expected to be participated in by city and barangay officials, and stakeholders will also be held, at the Quezon Park.

The summit, on the theme “Turn On To Vibrant Living, Turn Off SAD (Smoking, Alcoholism and Drugs)”, aims to increase the awareness and involvement of the community in the fight against illegal drugs, after police reports said that 90 percent of the victims of shooting incidents in Dumaguete are related to the illegal drugs trade.*JFP/PR
