Indian killed in Silay
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

An Indian national engaged in the money lending business, was shot dead when he fought with the three suspects, who robbed him of cash, yesterday in Brgy. Mambulac, Silay City, Negros Occidental.

Nelmarjit Singh,25, was declared dead on arrival at the Teresita Jalandoni Provincial Hospital, Supt. Rosauro Francisco, Silay City police chief, said.

Francisco said Singh succumbed to a fatal gunshot wound in the left side of his chest.

Investigations by the Silay police showed that Singh and his companion, Josdeep Singh, also an Indian national, were collecting daily remittances from their clients, when the suspects approached them.

Francisco said Nelmarjit fought back by throwing stones at the suspects. This prompted one of them to shoot him as he was taking refuge in a scrap iron shop, he added.

The suspects took P1,000 in cash from Nelmarjit, and fled on his motorcycle that they later abandoned at the Mambulac barangay proper.

Rosauro said they have already established the identities of the suspects, who are believed to be hiding in the mangrove areas of the barangay.

He said he is optimistic that they will catch the suspects soon. * GPB
