Japan fishing boats
arrive in Neg. Occ.

BY CARLA GOMEZ

Eight fiberglass fishing boats donated by Nagasaki, Japan, to the province of Negros Occidental, have arrived, Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. said yesterday.

Of the eight fishing boats, he said, one will be used by the Provincial Environment Management Office to go after persons engaged in illegal fishing in southern Negros Occidental, especially from Cauayan to Hinobaan.

The PEMO is buying a new engine for the fishing boat so it will have the speed to chase the culprits, he said.

Some of the fishing boats were distributed in northern Negros Occidental, he added.

The governor said the boats were shipped to Negros Occidental in a container van.

Asked if more vessels would be acquired by the province from Nagasaki, the governor said the shipping cost is too high.*CPG
