UNDOC to hold
protest vs. City

BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

The United Negros Drivers and Operators Center will stage a protest on September 30 against the alleged failure of the city government and the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod to act on their complaints against the operation of the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office.

UNDOC secretary general Diego Malacad also said yesterday that they had submitted a petition letter to the SP on September 10, seeking the replacement of BTAO head Reynaldo Ebreo because they were not satisfied with the way he has been implementing certain traffic ordinances of the city. He said they will submit their position again to the SP, reiterating their demand.

“This is just an opening salvo. We will also write Congress to seek a congressional inquiry on our concerns,” he said.. moremoremore

outside of Mt Talinis: exec

BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

The Southern Negros Geothermal Project of the Energy Development Corporation operates within the Palinpinon-Okoy watershed areas, and outside of Mt Talinis and the twin Lakes of Balinsasayao of Sibulan town, Negros Oriental, EDC-SNGP manager Dwight Maxino said yesterday.

Our editor, Carla Gomez, received a message from Celia Acedo, stating that the report on quake damage attributed to researchers from Silliman University, in the item submitted by JFP was completely hers. The report did mention, though, that the figures came from Acedo in a write-up posted on the SU website. – THE EDITORS

Maxino said this before the Sangguniang Bayan of Valencia because of apprehensions of environmental groups about the issuance of a tree-cutting permit for the Nasulo project of the EDC by the DENR.

He said the company complements its operations with a comprehensive water management and community partnerships program, forest restoration, upland community management, forest protection, biodiversity conservation and monitoring, health promotions, education, livelihood development and community environment in its concern to save Mt.
