Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. will deliver his inaugural address as Western Visayas Regional Development Council chairman and sign a memorandum of agreement for the infusion of P18 million in Canadian funds to boost tourism in the area, at rites in Iloilo City today.
In his inaugural address as RDC chair at the National Economic and Development Authority building this morning, Marañon is expected to focus on food security and the development of the agriculture sector, tourism, energy with bias on renewable energy, and the building of the Negros-Panay bridge as an avenue to unite Western Visayas.
Marañon and three other Western Visayas governors are also signing a MOA to boost tourism in the region at the Amigo Terrace Hotel in Iloilo City 2 p.m. today, DILG Regional Director Anthony Nuyda said yesterday.
Energreen Power Development and Management Inc. is capable of putting up an 18.9 megawatt diesel plant that will supply “peak and reserve” power to Central Negros Electric Cooperative, its corporate communications officer, Manny Canto, said yesterday.
Canto said Energreen is procuring the approval of the Securities and Exchange Commission of the increase of its capitalization.
The construction of its 18.9MW power plant on a 2-hectare site in Brgy. Calumanggan, Bago City, is ongoing and the target delivery date is December 26, he said.

Robotics technology launched
for Silliman nursing students

College of Nursing students of the Silliman University in Dumaguete City will be exposed to a new method of learning using robotics technology, with the inauguration yesterday afternoon of the multi-million peso expansion and renovation project at the Simulation Laboratory and Resource Center of the university.
The project is funded by the United States government, through the Office of the American Schools and Hospitals Abroad-United States Agency for International Development, and under the sponsorship of the United Board of Christian Higher Education in Asia.
Andrea Molfetto, program officer/agreement office representative of ASHA-USAID, said Silliman received the US$500,000 grant for the expansion and renovation of the center.
