After years of appeal and 15 letters to President Benigno Aquino, the Dacongcogon Sugar Mill is yet to receive any answer from the government.

Numerous letters and invitations were also coursed through Vice-President Jejomar Binay, the governor, Bishop Vicente Navarra, local politicians, military officers and even the undersecretary and Secretary Teresita Deles of the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace Process , but still no response.

This was disclosed by Rolando Parpa, Dacongcogon Farmers Producers Cooperative Chairman, in a press conference in Bacolod City yesterday.

Barangay  Captain Caroline Mendoza, Kagawads and residents of Calumangan in Bago City approve the Energreen/CENPRI blended fuel power plant project, a press release from the firm said.

Mendoza said the construction and operation of the power plant will not only  provide employment to barangay residents but taxes and other income generated from the power project will boost the area and its people, with economic benefits also for Bago and Negros Occidental, the press release said.

She said that before they endorsed the project to the Bago City Council, they held a series of public hearings and consultations, and a referendum that gave it the go signal.

Fish product shipments
up 50 percent

Shipments of the fishery products outside of Negros Occidental grew 50 percent compared to the previous year based on a data covering the first, second and third quarter of this year and of the previous year, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources reports said.

The third quarter of the current year posted the highest tonnage shipments of fish products at 2,861 tons. Total tonnage shipments for the 3 quarters is 7,777.646 tons higher to last year’s of 5,148.016 tons, a difference of 2,557.208 tons.

Top ten items in frequency last year were pacific white shrimp, tilapia, sardines, crabs, eel, squids, window pane shell, fish meal (processed), prawn and brown mussel, while top ten items for this year are: pacific white shrimp, crabmeat, squids, prawn, tuna, sardines, scad, window pane shell , moon fish and mackerel.
