Barangay Captain Caroline Mendoza, Kagawads and residents of Calumangan in Bago City approve the Energreen/CENPRI blended fuel power plant project, a press release from the firm said.
Mendoza said the construction and operation of the power plant will not only provide employment to barangay residents but taxes and other income generated from the power project will boost the area and its people, with economic benefits also for Bago and Negros Occidental, the press release said.
She said that before they endorsed the project to the Bago City Council, they held a series of public hearings and consultations, and a referendum that gave it the go signal.
Mendoza said that all issues were raised, and the pros and cons of the project discussed during the public hearing and the deliberations resulted in their yes vote to the project.
She also said that they initiated a Lakbay Aral by visiting the nearest diesel power plant installation in Panay island where they interviewed residents on the effect to the environment of the diesel plant in their area and they were told that there were no effects on the environment and on their health had been experienced.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources has issued an Environmental Compliance Certificate to Energreen, the press release said, adding that Energreen vows to comply with all mitigating measures and all other legal requirements as stipulated in the ECC, the press release said.
The power plants of Energreen/Cenpri in Bago City is not a direct replacement of the Unified Leyte power supply to CENECO because its power plant being put up in Calumangan that will be powered using blended fuel, will only be for peaking and reserve, it added.*
