The Department of Trade and Industry has issued a new suggested retail price for coffee and fish sauce products nationwide effective September 23, Reginald Hudierez, Trade and Industry Development Specialist, said yesterday.
Products included in the new suggested retail price are Nescafe Classic 25g at P20.75 from 19.95 an increase of .80 centavos or 4.01 percent, Nescafe Classic 50g at P41.00 from P39.50 an increase of P1.50 or 3.80 percent, Datu Puti (supermarkets) 350ml at P17.60 from P17.35 an increase of .25 centavos or 1.44 percent, Datu Puti (wet markets) 350ml at P18.30 from P18.00 an increase of .30 centavos or 1.67 percent, Nelicom 250ml at P20.40 from 20.05 an increase of .35 centavos or 1.75 percent.
Hudierez said the price increase for Nescafe refill was due to the continued increase of coffee robusta, the kind being used in the manufacture of Nescafe coffee products, from 9.66 percent in 2013 to 39.22 in the first semester of 2014.
He added that robusta coffee had a total increase of 6.9 percent worldwide from 2012 to the first semester of 2014.
For the Datu Puti fish sauce products, he said the increase in price was due to the high cost of fish extract, it raw material. He said that, based on data from the Bureau of Agricultural Statistics, galunggong increased by 17.73 percent from the second quarter of 2013 to the first quarter of 2014 and further increased by 5 percent in the third quarter of this year.*MNM
