‘Stop landlordism in
Negros forests’

The Social Action Center of the Diocese of Bacolod and 10 civil society organizations, in a joint position paper, yesterday called for an end to “private ownership and landlordism in the Negros forests” on the eve of a meeting of the Protected Area Management Board of the Northern Negros Natural Park.

The PAMBI is expected to decide on whether or not structures will be allowed within the NNNP in Salvador Benedicto town in a meeting at the Provincial Capitol in Bacolod City at 10 a.m. today.

On the agenda are the cease-and-desist orders issued to occupants of the NNNP in the town, who include Murcia Mayor Andrew Montelibano and Salvador Benedicto Mayor Josemax Ortiz..moremoremore

UNDOC won’t call
off protest today

The United Drivers and Operators Center will push through with their protest caravan in Bacolod City today despite appeals from the mayor to defer their action, during a meeting with the transport leaders yesterday.

Mayor Monico Puentevella yesterday said he asked UNDOC secretary general Diego Malacad that instead of holding a rally, he would like to meet with them on Saturday at the annex building of the government center together with other transport groups so he could listen to their demands and concerns.

But Malacad said they are pushing through with the protest caravan that will be joined by 27 transport associations affiliated with UNDOC. It will start from the Capitol Lagoon to the Land Transportation Office and will end at the Bacolod City Government Center, he said..moremoremore

Worsening drugs problem
in Cadawinonan revealed

Residents of the low-cost housing community in Cadawinonan, Dumaguete City, expressed fear about the worsening proliferation of illegal drugs in their area.

 A homeowner, who refused to be identified, said that, arrests were made every now and then but supplies continue to come in.

A buy-bust operation was held yesterday morning in the area where the suspect, Jaclon Gonzales Ramirez, 33, yielded 28 sachets of suspected shabu granules, an improvised tooter, and marked money.. moremoremore
