EDC exec says sorry
for bungled presscon

BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

A house made of light materials went up in smoke and two others were damaged when fire of still undetermined origin hit Oracion Drive in Barangay Looc, Dumaguete City, Sunday night.

Razed to the ground was the house of Elsie Quila, that was occupied by her daughter, Jocelyn, and children Rea Mae, 6, and Juvywen, 10.

Damaged were the houses of Lazaro Vilan Jr. and Pigue Peras.

Barangay Captain Angelita Ragay said the two children were left with a gas lamp in the house by their mother, who was allegedly with her new live-in partner.

Juvywen said he was awakened by the extreme heat and immediately pulled his sister out of the house, where their neighbors were waiting.

Fire investigator, FO3 Lovirgilio Faustorilla, said the fire started in the room where the children were sleeping, and this was corroborated by their neighbor Pigue Peras.

The neighbors said the mother returned home early morning yesterday, to find out that the house was gone and went to look for her children, who had been taken by their father, Avelino, who went to the fire scene upon learning of the incident.

Damage to property was placed at P15,000.*JG
