Worsening drugs problem
in Cadawinonan revealed

Residents of the low-cost housing community in Cadawinonan, Dumaguete City, expressed fear about the worsening proliferation of illegal drugs in their area.

 A homeowner, who refused to be identified, said that, arrests were made every now and then but supplies continue to come in.

A buy-bust operation was held yesterday morning in the area where the suspect, Jaclon Gonzales Ramirez, 33, yielded 28 sachets of suspected shabu granules, an improvised tooter, and marked money.

New mayor of
Bayawan takes oath

Bayawan City Vice Mayor Ismael Martinez took his oath yesterday as the new city mayor, after the death of German Sarana Jr. at 11:42 a.m. Saturday, at the St Luke’s Medical Center, due to heart failure.

Sangguniang Panlungsod first councilor, Mark Fidencio Aurelia, is the new vice mayor. He and Martinez took their oaths of office before Regional Trial Court Judge Ananson Jayme, witnessed by Bayawan City Department of Interior and Local Government Operations Officer Jesus Robel Sastrillo, department heads and employees.

Former mayor Rene Gaudiel, who lost to Sarana in the 2013 elections, was appointed the new city administrator, effective October 1, to replace Victoriano Alabastro, who confirmed the death of Sarana, who had served for three terms until 2010 and returned to the political arena last year.

A house made of light materials went up in smoke and two others were damaged when fire of still undetermined origin hit Oracion Drive in Barangay Looc, Dumaguete City, Sunday night.

Razed to the ground was the house of Elsie Quila, that was occupied by her daughter, Jocelyn, and children Rea Mae, 6, and Juvywen, 10.

Damaged were the houses of Lazaro Vilan Jr. and Pigue Peras.
