Bigger MassKara seen

Bacolod Mayor Monico Puentevella said yesterday that this year’s MassKara Festival will one of the best as several significant events will take place in Bacolod City.

Puentevella cited the opening of the SMX Convention Center at SM City Bacolod on October 16 and the ground breaking of the Seda Hotel of Ayala Land within this year. He said the SMX Convention Center of Bacolod will be the biggest in Visayas and even bigger than that of Iloilo.

They do not have enough rooms for visitors coming in right now and that SM also plans put up a hotel in Bacolod next year, he said.

There are also big real estate investors who are planning to come in, he added.

Puentevella said he also plans to close Araneta Street from October 16 to 20 and there will be activities almost everyday in the city during the 34th MassKara Festival.

He said the kiosks behind the Bacolod City Government Center opened Saturday and there will be more activities in other festival sites, especially along Lacson Street. The celebration will run until October 19, the Charter day anniversary of Bacolod City.

Puentevella led the launching of the 34th MassKara festival with the theme "One Rhythm. One Bacolod. A Million Smiles" on Sept. 9 at the government center.

He said the city will allocate P4 million for the 20 barangays that will join the streetdance competition.

The month-long event will start on October 1 with a Holy Mass at the Public Plaza.

The highlights of the festival include the MassKara Queen coronation night on October 10, MassKara by the Sea on October 12, Streetdance School Category on October 17, Streetdance Barangay Category on October 18 and the Kaadlawan sang Bacolod and the opening of the MassKara Float Parade on October 19th..

The MasskaraLand will open on the 17th while the streetdance competition will be at the Paglaum Sports Stadium.*CGS
