Market stall
owners start paying

Several stall owners in the three major markets in Bacolod City have already started to pay their monthly rentals, Bacolod City Administrator Rolando Villamor said yesterday.

Villamor had earlier recommended the closure of 15 stalls or blocks in the three major markets for failure of the occupants to pay their monthly rentals and arrearages to the city.

The City Administrator had issued demand letters to delinquent stall owners in the three public markets and the Manokan Country after their total unpaid rentals had reached about P80 million.

He said Baciwa director Marichi Ramos, who runs an optical clinic at the Bacolod Central Market, has started to pay her arrears with the city.

Villamor said Ramos was one of the 15 occupants whose block he had recommended foreclosed.

He said the market stall owners have requested the city to condone the interest and surcharges of their unpaid monthly rentals and arrearages but this will has to pass through the Sangguniang Panlungsod.*CGS
