AT LCC
Solon holds consultations

Bacolod Rep. Evelio Leonardia reunited recently with the academic community of his alma mater, La Consolacion College, by holding consultative and meetings and dialogs with them.

In his meeting with school administrators, student leaders and faculty members, led by college president Sr. Gavina Barrera, at the Audio-visual center of the Mother Consuelo Building, Leonardia discussed the various programs and projects of the national government being implemented in Bacolod City that he had facilitated as its congressman.

In his informal meeting with the student leaders and teachers, he discussed his congressional initiatives and asked them for an assessment on how the city is being run and for them to give suggestions on how to improve the day-to-day life of its residents.

During his meeting with the school community, he also made a powerpoint presentation showing that his office has implemented a total of P1.7 billion worth of development projects in less than two years, or since he became congressman in July 2013.

He also updated them on the status of some of the 46 bills he had filed, among them bills seeking the establishment of Bacolod offices of Securities and Exchange Commission and Professional Regulation Commission, and the Negros Occidental Tourism Office of the Department of Tourism.

Leonardia also said that he is holding this type of dialog because he believes in a consultative and participatory kind of leadership, and transparency and accountability in governance.

Admitting that he does not have a monopoly of good ideas, the congressman also listened to the individual concerns and suggestions of the teachers and the students on how best he can help them and their respective communities.

Leonardia is a Fidelity awardee of LCC, having been its student from kindergarten up to high school.

“It's great to come home to LCC,” Leonardia said in his introduction.

The LCC dialogs are part of the consultative meetings that Leonardia said he plans to hold regularly. The first was with the business community and multi-sectoral groups on March 11 at the Planta Hotel.*
