Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. yesterday called on Negrenses to pray for peace as the Christian world celebrates Lent.
“ I enjoin all Negrenses to continually pray for lasting peace, not only in Negros Island, but also in the entire country,“ he said.
Holy Week is also the best time to reach out to others, make amends and to seek forgiveness from those we have offended, he added.
Marañon said Holy Week should be spent revisiting the trouble-laden path taken by Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who gave His own life to save mankind. “It is also a time to re-examine ourselves and our faith as children of God,” he added.
“Deep in our thoughts, we tried many times, perhaps, to ask why, despite being sent by the Father, Jesus Christ chose to live with us, as an ordinary man. We cannot overemphasize His sacrifices and sufferings, His pains and all forms of aspersions and condemnation,” the governor said.
Christ's humility, His devotion to spreading love and peace and His strong desire to be of service to others are worth emulating, he added.
The governor said he wishes a prayerful season of Lent to everyone.*CPG
