Board member, radioman
post bail in libel cases
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

Negros Oriental Sangguniang Panlalawigan member Melliemore Saycon and radio commentator Jimmy Cataylo posted bail yesterday after learning that a warrant for their arrest had been issued by the Regional Trial Court Monday.

The two, block timers of DYMD 93.7 FM, were accused of libel by Gov. Roel Degamo before RTC Branch 38 Judge Cenon Voltaire Repollo, who recommended P20,000 bail bond for two counts of libel against Saycon, and P10,000 for Cataylo.

The libel cases were filed by Degamo early this year for what he called malicious, libelous and personal attacks, without giving him the opportunity to rebut or answer the accusations.

Saycon said he and Cataylo voluntarily surrendered to the police, accompanied by their legal counsels, Jun Orquillas and Mark Banquerigo. Board Member Rommel Erames assisted Saycon in posting the bail bond.

In an interview, Saycon said he will not stop running after the governor, who he claimed also has a lot to answer for before the Office of the Ombudsman.

Degamo said his legal team is contemplating to file more libel cases against Saycon for continued malicious and libelous attacks against him, that are recorded every day.

Arraignment of the cases is on April 15, Saycon said.*JG
