“Let's all pray for rain”
This was the call of Rosemarie Caunca, president of the League of Government Assisted Federation of Irrigators Associations in Negros Occidental, with the drop in the water level at the Bago River Irrigation System brought on by the dry spell that began in February.
Th e BRIS covers 13,350 hectares serving about 8,900 farmers in Bacolod, Bago and La Carlota cities and Murcia, Pulupandan, San Enrique and Valladolid towns
Engineer Rita Suarez of the Negros Occidental Irrigation Management Office said the BRIS water level has dropped by 30 centimeters.
Caunca said irrigation is being provided to the southern section of the BRIS service area now after which it will be shifted to the north.
The rotation of irrigation is being done so all BRIS areas can be adequately covered, she said.
Let us pray for rain to alleviate the plight of farmers suffering from the dry spell.
Let us hope that the dry spell will be mild as predicted by the weather bureau, and that the rains will come soon, she said.*CPG
