The Bacolod City Water District will open for bidding the bulk water supply project that will activate water pumps in various areas of the city, Bacolod Mayor Monico Puentevella said yesterday.
The Board of Directors of Baciwa informed Puentevella during their board meeting that they will add new water pumps in Barangay Handumanan-Phase 6, Abada-Escay Arao relocation sites in Barangay Vista Alegre and in the area near the football field of the Bacolod City Government Center.
The water pump along Andres Bonifacio Elementary School will also be reactivated, he said, adding that this will address the problem of insufficiency of water supply in the city.
Meanwhile, following meetings with tenants and association members of Burgos and Central Market, Puentevella, Administrator Rolando Villamor and several city officials visited Libertad market yesterday to hear the market vendors' concerns, a press release from City Hall said.
The issues raised included concerns about ambulant vendors and the city's possible take over the operations of the controversial AVM Bernardo slaughterhouse in Barangay Handumanan.
Puentevella said they want to give equal opportunity to everyone to sell in the market. He also suggested that the City Legal Office Enforcement Unit under Rey Demisana confer with the ambulant sellers and find them space inside the Libertad market.
The tenants also aired apprehensions over the nearby “bagsakan.” Puentevella said the “bagsakan” will be relocated to the new South Terminal in Alijis.
As for the city's abattoir, he said that it's “a matter of time” before the city takes over. But for now, they will have to wait for the decision of the Justice Department.
Puentevella also said two roving security personnel will be dispatched in the market to ensure safety and security in the area soon after the APEC meeting concludes this month.
Improvements in the facility and sanitation, among others are also part of his administration's long term agenda to boost the capabilities of the city's three main markets, he said.*CGS
