Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. and Vice Governor Eugenio Lacson yesterday paid tribute to those who fought for the nation's freedom 73 years ago whose bravery will be remembered during the commemoration of Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor) today.
“The country commemorates the Araw ng Kagitingan today to remember the bravery of our brothers, who fought side by side with our American allies in Bataan” against the Japanese invaders, the governor said.
“On this day, we pay tribute to our fallen heroes for their great sacrifice by offering their lives in the name of freedom 73 years ago today,” he said.
Lacson also reminded fellow Negrenses to draw inspiration from the lives of our forefathers who fought the invaders during World War II.
“Bravery is priceless, it implies that people of today should use this to fight their daily struggles as Filipinos”, he said.
“We should never forget that our forefathers showed us the real meaning of bravery which costs even their lives so that we can be inspired and be able to decide what's best for our lives and our family”, he said.
“Let us also be mindful of our real mission to serve others and achieve a quality of life. And though, along the way, we are experiencing trials, let us continue to face the future and embrace our glorious past, something that would boost our spirits to work for the betterment of our lives,” he added.*CPG
