The Department of Labor and Employment has issued a temporary work stoppage order against the construction of a three-storey building in Brgy. Pahanocoy, Bacolod City Wednesday.
Inspection conducted by a team of DOLE engineers Tuesday showed that the construction workers did not have harnesses and other safety gear, Cyril Ticao, DOLE Region 6 Assistant Director for Negros Occidental, said.
Ticao said that when they passed by the construction site they saw in plain view workers who did not have harnesses. They are meeting with the building contractor today on the matter. 


Calibration caravan set
The Department of Science and Technology will begin a calibration caravan in the towns and cities in Negros Occidental this month to check on weighing scales to ensure that they have not been tampered with, John Rey Suelo, DOST laboratory technician, said yesterday.
DOST will start the calibration in Kabankalan City and penalties to be imposed on the owners of tampered weighing scales will be determined by the LGU.
The inspectors will place test weights on the weighing scales and if it shows the accurate mass, the scale will be sealed to be inspected later by the Department of Trade and Industry, he said 


PAL opens new routes
MANILA -- Philippine Airlines has launched new intra-domestic routes linking Cebu and Cagayan de Oro, Davao, Butuan, Tacloban, Iloilo and Bacolod.
PAL said that the new flights also link Iloilo and General Santos as well as Zamboanga and Davao.
The new routes were re-established to bridge key points within and across various regions.
