Smart reports 56.4M subscribers

Smart Communications Inc. said it continues to be the number one mobile service provider in the Philippines, in terms of both subscriber base and revenues, it said in a press release Wednesday.

It also said that, as of end-2014, it has more than 56.4 million subscribers in its prepaid, postpaid, and broadband services, and is number one in revenues, posting P92.0 billion, or about 18 percent higher than the competition, the press release also said.

Together with Sun Cellular, the two wireless units of Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. further dominate the industry in both subscriber base and revenues. Smart and Sun combined has the largest subscriber base, with 72.8 million subscribers, the press release said.

The two wireless units also posted combined revenues of P114.5 billion as of end-2014, or about 47 percent higher than the competition, clearly giving the PLDT wireless group the strong and undisputed number one position in the mobile industry, the press release added.*
