Negros Oriental officials, like their counterparts in Negros Occidental, are hoping Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas will make an announcement today on the proposed creation of the Negros Island Region (NIR).
Vice Governor Mark Macias yesterday said he, along with other officials from Negros Oriental, are joining the opening of the 22nd Panaad sa Negros Festival at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City this afternoon, with Roxas as guest of honor and speaker.
The theme of this year's festival is “Negros: One Island, One Dream”..
Face us, vendors ask mayor
BY ADRIAN NEMES III
Please face us.
This was the simple yet emotional appeal of Rosario Tutor, vice president of the Manokan Country Vendors Association, to Bacolod Mayor Monico Puentevella, who failed to honor their invitation to a lunch meeting Saturday.
The MCVA invited Puentevella to lunch as part of the celebration of Manokan Country's 32nd founding anniversary and also to discuss the city's planned renovation and sale of the area.

Bais City Mayor Mercedes Teves Goni said she was surprised to learn that Bais topped the cities in Region 7, with the highest number of malnourished children in 2014.
“I thought we were giving everything for Bais City, and all of the sudden, we topped in Region 7 in malnutrition. It's not good for the city, it's like a slap in the faces of all concerned,” she said.
She asked Parolita Mission, regional nutrition program coordinator, and members of the Media Information Network for Nutrition and Development-7, headed by Jun Tagalog of DYLA in Cebu, for clarification on how the ranking came about.
