Members of the United Negros Drivers and Operators Center are asking the seven congressmen from Negros Occidental to file a resolution stopping the implementation of the Joint Administrative Order number 2014-01 that increases penalties for traffic violations.
Diego Malacad said they will submit their position paper to Representatives Julio Ledesma IV (1 st District), Leo Rafael Cueva (2 nd District), Alfredo Abelardo Benitez (3 rd District), Jeffrey Ferrer (4 th District), Alejandro Mirasol (5 th District), Mercedes Alvarez (6 th District) and Evelio Leonardia of Bacolod City, so they can act on it.
Malacad said their position paper is supported by members of Association of Taxi Operators and Iloilo City Alliance of Drivers' Associations, who had earlier sought the help of the Sangguniang Panglungsod of Iloilo for the passage a resolution stopping the JAO implementation in Iloilo City.
However, while Congress is yet to act on UNDOC's request, the group will ask the Bacolod City Sangguniang Panglungsod Committee of Transportation headed by Councilor Alex Paglumotan also for the passage of a resolution halting the imposition of JAO in Bacolod, he said.
Malacad added that the Transport caravan on April 27 that will be held simultaneously in Negros Occidental, Panay and Guimaras, will push through.
Section D of the JAO state that motor vehicles operating without or with defective/improper/unauthorized accessories, devices, equipment and parts shall be fined P5,000. The motor vehicle shall also be impounded until the accessory, device, equipment or part is properly installed, corrected or removed, and the fines paid.
The improper or unauthorized accessory, device, equipment or part shall be confiscated in favor of the government, the JAO add.
Payments range from P200 to P600 depending on the type of vehicle.*APN
