DOLE lifts order on
3-storey building

The Department of Labor and Employment has lifted the work stoppage order against the contractor of the three-storey building in Brgy. Pahanocoy in Bacolod City Monday.

Cyril Ticao, Assistant Director of the agency in Region 6, said yesterday that the order was lifted after the contractor had complied with the requirements set by the agency for the health and safety of their employees.

Earlier a team of engineers inspected the construction site and found out that the workers did not have safety harnesses, there were no safety nets, there were open pits, and there was no hot work permit while welding works were being done, he said.

Ticao warned anew building contractors and other employers to abide with the health and safety standards set by DOLE for the workers.

Under the Law, non-compliance with the requirements for workers' health and safety is a blatant violation of rules 1040, 1080, 1410, 1940 of the Occupational Safety Health Standards and DOLE Department order number 13, and failure to comply constitutes a criminal offense punishable under Article 288 of the Labor Code of the Philippines.*APN
